Witch Skiers: On January 14, 2012, during the 30th downhill ski race held in Belalp-Blatten in southwestern Switzerland, a group of skiers dressed as witches took part in the competition. The slope, which stretches 12 kilometers, is also known as the "Witch's Descent" (Hexenabfahrt), attracting around 1,500 participants in colorful costumes each year.
The inspiration for this race comes from a medieval legend about a witch who tormented local villagers until she was eventually burned at the stake. Dubbed the "Witches' Downhill Ski Race," it sees 1,500 participants in vibrant attire skiing down a 12-kilometer slope with a vertical drop of 1,800 meters. The event began in 1983 and is open to both children and adults.
