On February 6, several ski resorts told reporters in interviews that lowering prices and seizing the last opportunity to maximize gains for this ski season would be the main strategy for the final month.
The head of one ski resort stated that by the end of the Spring Festival holiday, the ski resort had already achieved 70–80% of its revenue target for the entire season. “The sweetest part of the ‘sugarcane’ is already over — now we’ll just take what we can get from what’s left.” “Based on past experience, ski resorts in the Shenyang area can usually stay open until early March. That means there’s still about a month of earnings to be made, but at this point, no one will hold rigidly to their prices!” said the person in charge.
It is understood that starting from February 7, the Guai Po Ski Resort will significantly reduce its skiing prices — daytime or nighttime skiing will cost just 100 yuan, with the night session ticket including a meal. Previously, the daytime price at this ski resort was 150 yuan (180 yuan on weekends).
Although the prices at Qipan Mountain Ice and Snow World have not changed, reporters learned from some travel agencies that the discounts offered to agencies are larger, which amounts to a de facto price cut. A staff member from a skiing website said that going skiing at Qipan Mountain through them only costs 120 yuan, which includes round-trip transportation fees, the first entry ticket to Qipan Mountain, the skiing ticket, and guide services.
Industry insiders said that after the Spring Festival, all ski resorts are very much looking forward to a post-holiday mini peak during Valentine’s Day on February 14, but since this year’s Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday, the resorts have had to lower their expectations. Considering the drop in enthusiasm for skiing after the holiday, the reopening of schools for students, and the possibility of warmer temperatures at any time, reducing prices is an inevitable trend for ski resorts.
