On a Sunday in the deep mountains, numerous outdoor enthusiasts were taking photos of the stunning icefalls when an ice avalanche occurred, injuring two female hikers who were close to the icefall. The incident happened around 12 noon on the 12th at the Heishancha Icefall in the Qinling Mountains.
On the 12th, hiker Mr. He said that on the morning of the 12th, members of his club had gone to the Lao Yu area of the Qinling Mountains to view the icefalls. At the time, there were also members from another club. While many hikers were taking pictures, the icefall above suddenly collapsed, and two female hikers were hit by falling ice blocks. One of them fainted on the spot.
Hiker “Wind Whisperer” wrote in a QQ post: On the 12th, the weather was fine, and many people went into the mountains together for leisure. There were a lot of hikers at the Heishancha area of the Lao Yu in the Qinling Mountains, Huyi District, admiring the icefalls.
The Heishan Waterfall has a drop of over a hundred meters, frozen into a rare ice waterfall. Along the ice pillars, small streams of water continued to flow down and froze at the bottom, forming a huge ice pile. On the cliff rocks about a hundred meters wide, water droplets seeped out and formed one small icicle after another, connecting into a vast, crystal-clear and stunningly beautiful scene.
“Wind Whisperer” told reporters that while everyone was admiring and taking photos, a loud rumbling sound suddenly came, followed by dozens of large ice blocks collapsing and falling from the right side of the icefall. The ice blocks hit two female hikers below, and one of them fainted on the spot. Seeing that more ice blocks might fall, other hikers quickly rescued the injured ones from the danger zone.
At the scene, the injured hikers had blood on their faces, with external injuries on their necks, left shoulders, and arms. Other hikers placed them on a platform, then borrowed a wooden board from a nearby villager’s home. With the villagers’ help, they carried the injured hikers down the rugged, snow- and ice-covered mountain path to a hospital for treatment.
Currently, the unconscious hiker is undergoing emergency treatment, while the other hiker, apart from a minor injury to her little finger, is not seriously hurt.
