The first leg of the 2012 IFSC Climbing World Cup will take place from April 13 to 14 in Dadukou District, Chongqing. Top climbers from over 10 countries and regions will gather in the mountain city to perform “cliff ballet.”
According to reports, the IFSC Climbing World Cup and the IFSC Climbing World Championships are two major events organized by the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC). The World Cup is held in stages around the world, allowing athletes to choose which events to compete in to earn rankings and points, which are then used to determine an annual overall ranking—with the highest scorer winning the annual World Cup title.
It is reported that the upcoming competition in Chongqing is the first leg of the 2012 IFSC Climbing World Cup. This marks the first time that the southwestern region of China has hosted a top-tier climbing event, with the competition reaching the highest global standards in terms of scale and level.
The competition will feature four events: men’s and women’s bouldering, and men’s and women’s speed climbing. Over 100 world-class athletes from more than 10 countries and regions, including France, Russia, and the Netherlands, will participate in Chongqing. The world’s top 30 ranked athletes will also be competing, including Zhong Qixin, the current men’s speed climbing (international standard route) world record holder from China.
