The championship is jointly organized by the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Zhejiang Provincial Sports Bureau, and the People’s Government of Wenzhou Municipality, with co-organization by the Publicity Department of the Wenzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC, the Wenzhou Municipal Sports Bureau, and other entities. It is sponsored under the title “Wenzhou Bank Cup.” This marks the first national Class-A sporting event hosted by Wenzhou in the Year of the Dragon, and also the first national sports competition to gather talents from all over after the completion of the Wenzhou Dalaoshan National Fitness Trail.
Li Zhixin, Director of the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, stated that the 2012 National Mountain Outdoor Sports Championship will hold its opening ceremony on April 13 at Wenzhou Century Square. A total of 125 athletes and coaches from 25 professional outdoor sports teams across the country will gather in Wenzhou. Over the course of three days, they will compete in scenic areas such as the Ou-Rui River, Sanyang Wetland, Dalaoshan Mountain, and Zeya—showcasing the heroic skills of outdoor sports elites through ten competitive events including cross-country running, mountain biking/running relays, kayaking, mountain biking, mountaineering, waterfall rappelling, zip-lining, canopy trekking, rafting, and stream tracing.
It is understood that the construction of the Wenzhou Dalaoshan National Hiking and Fitness Trail follows a method of “unified planning, unified standards, and phased implementation.” It is being completed in two phases, with a total length exceeding 120 kilometers. The first phase, spanning 45 kilometers, commenced construction in September 2011 and was completed by the end of November the same year, with an investment of 4.61 million yuan funded by municipal sports lottery public welfare funds.
The “Wenzhou Bank Cup” 2012 National Mountain Outdoor Sports Championship takes “Come to Wenzhou • Challenge Yourself” as its theme. Amid the dynamic, unique, and thrilling mountain outdoor competitions, the charm of Ou-Yue landscapes, the natural scenery of late spring in the Jiangnan region, and Wenzhou’s cultural geography will also be showcased. Through the challenge of self-transcendence, participants will experience a brand-new Wenzhou.
According to Chen Xiangdong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government, Wenzhou—with its long history and profound cultural heritage—is advancing toward becoming a prominent cultural city. Hosting the 2012 Mountain Outdoor Sports Championship in Wenzhou plays a positive role in promoting the city’s landscape, recommending its tourism resources, and enhancing Wenzhou’s reputation. Leveraging this event, the Dalaoshan National Hiking Trail will gradually become a nationally renowned leisure and fitness brand. The competition coincides with the 2012 China (Wenzhou) Forest Tourism Festival. The synergy between the sporting event and the forest tourism festival will greatly elevate the quality of both the tourism offerings and the sporting competition. A spectacular event not only attracts sports enthusiasts to fully experience Wenzhou’s rich regional culture and uniquely beautiful natural scenery but also aligns with the expectations of travel lovers seeking novelty, excitement, and uniqueness.
