New Ferry Route from Seattle to Vashon Island
The Washington State Department of Transportation has recently added a new ferry route between Seattle and Vashon Island. With the new route in place, the round trip between Seattle and Vashon Island takes only about 20 minutes, with dozens of ferry crossings available daily.
Spanning an area of 96 square kilometers, Vashon Island was officially named in May 1792, and has since stood in isolation in the waters of Puget Sound, far inland. Perhaps precisely because there is not a single bridge connecting the island to the mainland, and all travel between the two relies on ferries, the island’s residents have preserved their traditional, laid-back way of life intact.
