As the Asian counterpart of the EUROBIKE (Europe’s premier cycling trade show), the Asia Bike Show is the first professional exhibition in China focused on the sport cycling market. It is also another international collaboration project between Nanjing and Friedrichshafen, Germany, following the Asia Outdoor Show, and enjoys strong backing from the Nanjing Municipal Government, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Nanjing Sub-council, and EUROBIKE.

The 2nd Asia Bike Show will be held from July 26–29, 2012, at the Nanjing International Expo Center. Compared to last year, this year’s show will double in size, covering an exhibition area of 24,000 square meters, with an expected 230 exhibitor brands — a 66% increase. The first two days (July 26–27) will be open exclusively to trade visitors, while the last two days (July 28–29) will be public days open to the general public. Held concurrently with the 7th Asia Outdoor Show, the strong industry synergy is expected to draw even larger crowds. Attendance for this year’s Asia Bike Show is projected to reach 30,000 visitors.

A host of leading industry players will make their presence felt at the Asia Bike Show. In addition to returning brands such as Shimano, Specialized, Look, Cube, BMC, Cervelo, Focus, Tyrell, and UCC, this year will also see the debut of internationally renowned brands including Bergamont, BH, Bianchi, Corratec, Mercedes Smart, Haibike, Staiger, Hercules, KTM, Pinarello, and Wheeler. Mr. Jaeger, advisor to the Asia Bike Show, stated, “75% of the exhibitor brands are international, which demonstrates that global brands place high importance on China’s emerging premium sport cycling market.”

The 2012 Asia Bike Show will feature a variety of engaging activities to enhance the visitor experience, such as fashion shows, 6-hour endurance races, industry forums, and new additions like the Bike Queen Contest and Tibet Cycling Salon. Additionally, two test tracks will be set up in the exhibition hall: one designed for road bikes and e-bikes, and another specially built mountain bike track using natural materials like soil, stones, and grass, complete with an on-site service team offering guided test rides.

The highlight of the Asia Bike Show is undoubtedly the “Exhibition within the Exhibition,” which showcases the pinnacle of cycling craftsmanship. According to organizers, the total value of luxury bicycles displayed in this section this year will reach RMB 7–8 million (approximately €1 million). As market analysts have noted, “In China, those who can afford luxury cars like Mercedes, BMW, and Porsche naturally want a high-end bicycle to reflect their taste.” The “Exhibition within the Exhibition” serves as a dedicated showcase for the most luxurious, expensive, and performance-oriented premium bicycles on the market.

Furthermore, given that many international brands are seeking distributors or looking to expand production capacity in China, the 2012 Asia Bike Show leverages its platform advantage by introducing a free business matchmaking service within the European Pavilion to connect international brands with potential domestic distributors.

Over the past two to three years, China’s sport cycling market has experienced robust growth, with an increase exceeding 30%. The rapid surge in the number of bicycle brand stores is a testament to this real market expansion. Against the backdrop of such swift development, the Asia Bike Show responds to the trend by offering more opportunities for brand promotion and channel development to both brands and dealers.
