After months of careful preparation, it was all for the pursuit of one dream: completing the entire Mont Blanc race.
Although the mountains were still covered in snow, a joint training session in early June went ahead as scheduled. The breathtaking natural scenery across the rolling peaks and the thrilling yet challenging course were enough to lift anyone’s spirits. François, Julien, Miguel, and Iker all set winning this race as their goal for the season. This meant sacrificing time with family, training outdoors every day, managing their work schedules as best they could, and preparing thoroughly before the race. With proper preparation, every athlete had a chance to claim the ultimate victory.

When we received the weather forecast, we immediately drew up a new route and informed everyone, as we couldn’t recklessly expose so many participants to extremely harsh weather conditions. But the newly proposed 100-kilometer route was rather disappointing. None of the athletes were excited about this new course. After comprehensive training and improvement, everyone was more eager to compete in another race and take on the challenge once again.
After hours of deliberation, Miguel made his decision. Having been injured and not competing in any events since May, he felt it was time to test his abilities. He needed—and truly wanted—to run. Julien pointed out that compared to 100 miles, the 100-kilometer distance was too short for him, so he chose to withdraw and focus on preparing to break the record he had set in the GR20 race last October. FranThe reality he faced was that he had no real choice, as the entire month of September after this race was the grape harvest season in the vineyards, which would cause him to miss all the subsequent competitions.
After going through emotions, issues, and doubts, it’s hard to get excited about a running event that has lost its distinctive character. But for the true self,FranMiguel and they gave their all to the race, without an ounce of regret. They maintained a brisk pace after the start, took the lead in the race, and tried to stay closely coordinated throughout. Running through Saint-Gervais-les-Bains near the Col de la Loze, surrounded by a crowd of supporters, felt absolutely wonderful.
