From September 15 to 16, the 3rd Jingmei Cup International Mountain Hiking Festival concluded its two-phase, four-day competition in Zhaitang Town, Mentougou District, Beijing. Seven distinctive hiking routes, stunning natural scenery, and the folk culture of Western Beijing came together with tens of thousands of participants to stage an international mass sports event.
The 3rd International Mountain Hiking Festival was jointly organized by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, the People’s Government of Mentougou District, Beijing, the Beijing Sports Federation, and the Beijing International Exchange Association of Civil Organizations. The competition was divided into three areas—Mentougou New Town, Qianshan, and Zhaitang—and featured three categories: professional competition, fitness and leisure, and Hiking Star.
At 10:00 AM on September 15, under the sound of the starting gun, tens of thousands of participants surged forward from the starting line. Contestants wore red, green, blue, and white shirts, corresponding to the 10 km, 20 km, 30 km, and 100 km race categories, respectively.

       Zhaitang Town, Mentougou
Historically known as “Linggui Chuan,” Zhaitang Village was originally a place where monks and pilgrims of the ancient Lingyue Temple ate vegetarian meals during the Tang Dynasty, hence the name Zhaitang (Vegetarian Hall). After the village was established and developed, the name has been retained ever since.
Zhaitang Town is home to numerous cultural relics and historic sites, scattered like shining pearls across its villages. National historic and cultural villages such as Cuandixia, the Scholar Village of Lingshui in Western Beijing, the ruins of the Donghulin people, and many other relics give Zhaitang significant cultural and historical research value.
