Chen Junheng, a solo cyclist calling on the world to “pay attention to the education of impoverished children,” has arrived in Luoyang.
Yesterday afternoon around 3 p.m., at Luoyang’s Luopu Park Square, reporters met the artsy Chen Junheng.
Chen Junheng said he is from Taishan City, Guangdong Province, and the news of Kodak’s bankruptcy in January inspired him to document China through photography. On April 29, with 10,000 yuan in hand, he set off on his bicycle from the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall in Guangzhou. He said that having come from a poor family, he was supported by overseas Chinese donations throughout his primary and secondary school years, and a sense of gratitude has always stayed with him. “I’ve grown up, so I want to do what I can to help some underprivileged children.” He said the postcards he sells are made from photos he took during his journey, and the funds raised will go toward buying school supplies and toys for children in mountainous areas of Yunnan, Guizhou, Gansu, Sichuan, and other regions.
So far, Chen Junheng has cycled over 6,000 kilometers, traveling through 10 provinces including Guangdong, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Anhui, as well as 3 municipalities directly under the central government. He has sold more than 1,000 postcards and raised over 4,000 yuan in charitable donations.
