On January 13, 2013, Huai Bei International Ski Resort hosted its first freestyle snowboarding park competition. Despite heavy smog in Beijing that day, the atmosphere at Huai Bei was buzzing with excitement as numerous domestic snowboarders gathered to participate in this first-ever large-scale freestyle snowboarding park event in China.
At 2:00 PM, the freestyle snowboarding park finals began. Each rider had three runs to showcase their skills, choosing either the jump line or the rail line to perform tricks. Judges scored based on the riders’ overall run performance...
...with the best score from the three runs determining the final rankings. In the first round, all riders delivered stable performances. Baozi’s 360 spin into a 720 spin, along with a 180 up and 180 down on the box, and a straight run into a 180 off the combo box, laid a solid foundation for his lead. Xiaonuan also earned high scores with two consistent 180s off the jumps, as well as rail slides on the box and combo box.
Other riders also performed impressive tricks. After the next two rounds, the final rankings were determined by the three judges:, with all participants showcasing excellent moves. Following the last two rounds of competition, the final rankings were announced by the three judges:
1st Place: Sponsored rider Baozi (backed by The North Face, Nordica, and Smith) scored 52.5 points and won a Movement snowboard worth 8,000 RMB, provided by Xueyufenghua Company.
2nd Place: Xiaoyuan, with 43.5 points, received a Movement helmet worth 1,800 RMB and a Movement ski pole worth 600 RMB, both provided by Xueyufenghua Company. 3rd Place: Sponsored rider Bai Xiaonuan (backed by Armada, Giro, and Skins), with 41.5 points, won a pair of Oakley ski goggles worth 2,000 RMB. 4th Place: Yangzi (38.5 points), 5th Place: Scott rider Wenguang (37.5 points), 6th Place: Tuzi (37 points), 7th Place: JuqibuDing (32.5 points), 8th Place: X-team rider Kongfan Gongzi (30.5 points). They also received a variety of prizes from Huai Bei Ski Resort, Red Bull Vitamin Drink Co., Ltd., as well as Nordica and Nitro. Additionally, a lucky draw on-site awarded various prizes, including Huai Bei Ski Resort lift tickets, Red Bull keychains, Nordica hats, and Felice ski face guards.
The Huai Bei Freestyle Snowboarding Park Competition officially concluded at 3:30 PM. This event marked the first true freestyle snowboarding park competition in China and played a significant role in promoting the development of freestyle snowboarding in the country. More events are planned to take place in the Oakley Park at Huai Bei Ski Resort, and we hope to see more people join the freestyle snowboarding community to experience the thrill of park riding, challenge themselves, and have fun!!!
