Whether during winter or summer vacation, parents should take their children on trips to relax and unwind when conditions allow, broadening their horizons. Education for children is not something that happens only at specific times but should be a continuous process. Children can learn a lot during travels.
Their bodies get exercised
The idea of traveling with my child came after a trip taken a few months after her birth. I had no heart to enjoy the beautiful scenery, was too busy with daily photo shoots to spare a moment, and my eyes were filled only with my daughter. The guilt I felt was no less than that of an emotional affair. From then on, I could no longer travel alone.
I began to doubt whether what I was doing was right. But when I saw four-month-old Jiajia dancing with joy at the sight of snow-capped mountains and forests, her bright eyes looking out the car window at the leaves, and later in Qinghai, where she hummed happily out of excitement... Each of Jiajia’s responses further strengthened my confidence in taking my daughter around the world. It’s just that since then, Jiajia has never really been fair-skinned again.
When Jiajia was seven months old, we drove to Tongde in Qinghai. There was high altitude, no electricity, no house, and no bed. Having had numerous experiences living on the grasslands, I was well-prepared for these conditions. But this time, I was traveling with a little one, so before setting off, I nervously consulted high-altitude illness experts and pediatricians. To this day, I’m grateful for the confidence they gave me. That confidence helped create “Little Donkey Jiajia”!
Many unpredictable things during the trip also helped Jiajia grow stronger. We arrived in Xining by car late at night. No restaurants were open, only street vendors. With no other choice, we asked them to cook the noodles a bit softer for Jiajia. Later, when we stayed in tents on the grassland, I hadn’t even had time to boil the mineral water I brought when a local helped boil water from the river. I thought, I’ll just have to try it. And it actually turned out fine. In that remote area, there weren’t many baby foods available either. I could only find a few eggs to make her steamed egg custard. So Jiajia started trying all kinds of food from a young age. Over time, her stomach actually became stronger than most kids’. Later, I learned from experts that the stomach also has a memory. The more types of food you try, the better your adaptability.
Improve adaptability and vitality
Just like that, while traveling with Jiajia, we fully immersed ourselves in the lives of the locals. Her friends now come from all over. And no matter where she goes or what kind of people she meets, she has a strong sense of inclusiveness, rather than feeling distant.
Mindset determines everything. The more you see, the calmer you become. Through long-term accumulation, Jiajia’s brain is like a large hard drive. It already contains many folders, and no matter what kind of information she encounters, she can retrieve related memories. Whether she sees something fun, unsatisfactory, exciting, or ordinary, she doesn’t overreact.
Not just with people. Every aspect of travel life has become second nature to Jiajia. Car travel means “discomfort” for many—standing is unbearable, sitting is uncomfortable, and lying down has too little space. But for Jiajia, she often just sleeps in the car as is. Eating anything has also never been a problem.
Because of this, we’re quite confident in Jiajia’s ability to adapt to future life: she’s willing to try and can adapt. And isn’t strong adaptability just about greater flexibility, resilience, and survival capability?
