Due to heavy fog on the mountain and being unfamiliar with the trail, Mr. Feng, a tourist from Shibei District, Qingdao, who had come to hike Xiao Zhu Shan in Huangdao District, got lost at the summit and called the police. Police from the Development Zone immediately dispatched a search and rescue team. After more than three hours of searching, they successfully rescued Mr. Feng.
At 17:45 on the 15th, Qingdao Development Zone police received a call from Mr. Feng reporting that he had gotten lost while climbing to the top of Xiao Zhu Shan in the afternoon and couldn’t find his way down due to the thick fog. Upon receiving the report from the command center, the Lingzhu Shan Police Station immediately formed a rescue search team, deploying three police officers and five members of the joint defense team, and sent out two police vehicles to search the mountain.
When the responding police officers arrived at the foot of Xiao Zhu Shan, it was already dark, with temperatures as low as minus 6 degrees Celsius. The road leading up to the mountain was still covered with snow from earlier rainfall and snowfall, with some sections already frozen, making it impossible for the police vehicles to proceed. To save time in the search, the officers had to abandon their vehicles and proceed on foot. Around 19:00, they managed to make contact with Mr. Feng. Over the phone, the officers continuously reassured him, advising him to stay put to conserve energy and wait for rescue without wandering around.
After stabilizing Mr. Feng’s emotions, the officers guided him to describe the surrounding landscape and any notable landmarks. Based on his descriptions, Officer Liu Tonghua, drawing on his familiarity with the terrain, confidently determined that Mr. Feng was near the Nantianmen area of Xiao Zhu Shan Scenic Spot. The search team proceeded to search based on Liu’s judgment and, after hiking for over an hour, finally found Mr. Feng taking shelter under some rocks near Nantianmen. By that time, Mr. Feng’s pants and shoes were soaked, and he was shivering from hunger, cold, and fear. Upon seeing the police arrive, he was extremely emotional and repeatedly expressed his gratitude. After calming him down, the officers helped him walk down the mountain.
It was later learned that Mr. Feng, 30 years old, had come alone from downtown Qingdao to hike in the Zhu Shan scenic area. After reaching the summit and noticing that it was getting late, he tried to take a shortcut down but got lost due to his unfamiliarity with the terrain. Cold and hungry, he had no choice but to call the police for help.
