Cat lovers, unite — Kaohsiung’s first super-cute orange cat postman-shaped mailbox

To promote tourism, the Kaohsiung Jiashian Post Office launched“Cat Alley Mural”activity last year in collaboration with the public, providing the walls of the alley next to the post office for community mural painting. More recently, at the end of last month, they introduced“orange cat postman”-shaped mailbox for public use.

This themed mailbox is located in Lane 40, Lin Sen Road. The alley is often frequented by cats, which is why locals also call it “Cat Alley.” The mailbox’s designer, Hong e? Chao, shared that while walking past the alley near the post office one day, he noticed a cat with a unique expression, which inspired the design idea. After discussing with the neighborhood and going through production, they completed this highly expressive cat-shaped mailbox over the course of a year.

Hong e? Zhao himself owns two cats and said he was very satisfied. He explained that the original design of the mailbox was based on a cat with a rather stern expression, but after discussion, they felt it might be a bit too serious, so they adjusted the shape to be more approachable. The current version is much more likable. He first sketched out the idea of a cat with a stern expression as the prototype, and later envisioned adding another one to create a pair.
