Advanced Outdoor Cooking Philosophy
Jetboil originated from a simple yet powerful idea. The founders of Jetboil (USA), Perry Dowst and Dwight Aspinwall, tired of bulky fuel canisters and stoves, soon discovered that the secret to reducing weight and improving energy efficiency lay in enhancing heat transfer efficiency. They eventually developed a fast, efficient, lightweight, compact, easy-to-use, and highly extendable outdoor cooking system. Within just a few years of its launch, it claimed the top market share in the highly competitive U.S. outdoor gear market and has been deeply loved and sought after by consumers.
Today, the Jetboil brand has been successfully acquired by Johnson Outdoors, and the powerful collaboration between the two companies is set to make a splash in the outdoor community, bringing even more advanced outdoor cooking concepts to Jetboil enthusiasts. The Green Field Outdoor Network also took the opportunity of the 2013 Beijing ISPO exhibition to interview Jetboil’s Global Sales Manager, James Bortho.

A: The Jetboil brand is built on customer experience, focusing on portability, compactness, and efficiency. This delivers a unique user experience that no other brand can replicate. All users who have tried Jetboil come back for more, which proves how enjoyable the experience is.
Jetboil is extremely convenient—making tea or cooking rice is no problem at all for customers using it outdoors. Moreover, anyone can use it, and the method is very simple. That’s why our products are popular among everyone from cutting-edge professionals to casual campers.
Q: The acquisition of Jetboil by Johnson Outdoors is nearly complete. Will this acquisition bring major changes to Jetboil? What’s your take on it?
A: We’re very excited and thrilled about the partnership between the two companies. It marks a new chapter in Jetboil’s history. Johnson Outdoors is an outstanding company with unique strengths in operations and branding. We’re very much looking forward to future collaboration and hope Jetboil can achieve even greater success under Johnson Outdoors.
Q: Sea to Summit has been the agent for Jetboil in Australia for many years and is now the general agent in China. The cooperation between these two sibling brands is growing ever closer. Can you tell us the reason behind this?
A: Sea to Summit and Jetboil have had a very pleasant cooperation in Australia over the years, achieving great success together in developing the local market. Likewise in China, we hope Sea to Summit and Jetboil will deliver equally impressive sales results and bring advanced outdoor cooking concepts to every Chinese consumer.
Q: This is the second time Jetboil has participated in the ISPO Beijing exhibition on such a large scale. What’s the difference between ISPO Beijing and ISPO Munich?
A: At this year’s ISPO Beijing exhibition, we met many high-end, quality clients and numerous professional outdoor enthusiasts. Our exchanges with them allowed us to directly understand their needs and feedback, and also brought our philosophy to end consumers. This is a fantastic thing.
Q: Jetboil produces both personal and group stoves that are very popular. Aside from the design of the heat exchanger at the base of the stove, what other groundbreaking innovations can we expect from Jetboil?
A: At this year’s exhibition, we introduced two new colors for the “FLASH” Chameleon: a vibrant tomato red and a very outdoorsy camouflage. Beyond these color changes, because we’ve joined the Johnson Outdoors family, this summer will bring something entirely new. We hope everyone is looking forward to it.
