The first “Baxiu Lake Mountain Bike Cross-Country Race” will take place from April 30 to May 1, 2013, in the Baxiu Lake National Forest Park, a national 4A-level scenic area in Nyingchi Prefecture, Tibet. It is the highest-altitude mountain bike cross-country race around a lake in Tibet. The 41-kilometer course consists of 70% off-road mountain biking sections, which are further divided into a 15.5-kilometer professional mountain bike trail and a 12-kilometer amateur mountain bike trail, and 30% road cycling sections. The average altitude is over 3,600 meters, and the event unfolds over two days. The route winds through fragrant pine forests and wildflowers, surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery—all set against the backdrop of the shimmering waters and snow-capped peaks of Baxiu Lake. It’s a healthy and adventurous journey, as well as a feast of culture and lakeside beauty.
National Highway 318 is known as China’s scenic highway. In 2012, nearly 30,000 cyclists traveled along it, making Tibet a top cycling destination for biking enthusiasts. Baxiu Lake, a famous tourist attraction near National Highway 318 in Nyingchi Prefecture, Tibet, serves as the backdrop for the Baxiu Lake Cycling Race. Leveraging the natural resources of Nyingchi and the cyclist traffic along the Sichuan-Tibet and Yunnan-Tibet routes, the event aims to establish itself as Tibet’s most professional cross-country lake cycling race.
