Elderly cyclists from the Senior Cycling Association promote tree planting and green protection
On March 25, the launch ceremony of the "2013 Provincial Capital Voluntary Tree Planting and Citywide Promotion Campaign" jointly organized by the Taiyuan Greening Committee Office and the Taiyuan Civilization Office was held in front of the Tianlong Building square. 300 elderly members of the Taiyuan Senior Cycling Association, dressed in uniform team outfits, rode their bicycles in six groups to major streets to promote voluntary tree planting and green protection. Their cycling parade attracted the attention of many passersby along the way, and their actions added a beautiful sight to the city streets. "The Senior Cycling Association is one of the cycling associations in Taiyuan, and has been participating in voluntary tree planting activities for several years without interruption. Among those participating this time, the oldest is over 80 years old and the youngest is 50," said 70-year-old Liu Tingjiu. The group in front of the Tianlong Building consists of 50 people, who will set off from the Tianlong Building, head west along Yingze Street, turn south at Taoyuan Road intersection, go east along Shuangta West Street, turn north at Jianshe South Road, then west again along Yingze Street, and finally return to the Tianlong Building. The other five groups will start from the No. 101 tram stop, Taiyuan Railway Club, Xuefu Park, Xigong, and the intersection of Heping South Road and Nanneihuan, respectively. The elderly will distribute voluntary tree planting brochures and flyers along the way, encouraging government agencies, organizations, enterprises, institutions, and the general public to care about their surroundings, support Taiyuan’s greening efforts, and participate in tree planting activities.
