In this April when azaleas bloom all over the mountains, Leye County, a UNESCO Global Geopark, will host the 6th China Baise Leye International Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge and the National Rock Climbing Divisional Competition (Leye Station).
At that time, elite outdoor sports athletes from around the world and top domestic rock climbers will gather in the “Capital of Tiankengs,” a place that combines majestic, rugged, and perilous landscapes with the scenic beauty of both northern and southern China, to showcase their skills to the fullest.

This edition of the National Rock Climbing Divisional Competition will feature artificial climbing walls, with events including men’s and women’s difficulty, speed, and bouldering competitions, as well as a mixed gender speed relay. Participating athletes must be citizens of the People’s Republic of China aged 14 or above, as well as residents of Hong Kong and Macau, and must be among the top three in individual events of the C group at the 2012 National Youth Championships.
To enhance public participation in this event and allow athletes, dignitaries, and tourists visiting Leye to enjoy the region’s rich folk culture and taste its authentic organic foods, a variety of activities will be held during the competition period, including event result predictions, climber exchange meetings, amateur rock climbing competitions, tourism product exhibitions, tiankeng fun games, thematic photography contests, folk culture performances, and organic food tastings.
The successful hosting of major events such as the International Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge, the Asian Rock Climbing Championships, and the National Rock Climbing Elite Competition for five consecutive years has contributed to raising Leye’s profile and boosting local economic and social development. This year, building on the experience of previous events and strictly adhering to the requirements of the “Eight-Point Regulation,” Leye is organizing the event in a frugal manner. Extravagances such as flower arrangements, red carpets, and lion dances during the opening ceremony have been canceled. Even the much-anticipated awards evening will feature locally created and performed programs that represent Leye’s unique characteristics. The goal is to deliver the best possible event with minimal expenditure, ensuring a cost-effective and successful International Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge and National Rock Climbing Divisional Competition. Currently, all preparatory work for the event is progressing smoothly, with improvements to competition routes, venues, and reception facilities underway in an orderly fashion. Leye will take this opportunity to fully showcase its distinctive local culture and abundant tourism resources, further promoting local economic and social development.
