I've long wanted to experience the charm of Old Ox Bend, taking advantage of the three-day Qingming holiday (April 4th to 6th), I finally set off with several friends from our car club (four cars, ten people). The main attractions on this trip included: Sha Hu Kou ----- Laoniuwan Fort (located in Inner Mongolia, also the best spot to photograph the ox head drinking from the Yellow River) ---- Mao Tai Mountain Scenic Area ---- Ancient Pianguan County Town (the first county in Shanxi where the Yellow River flows into) ---- Laoniuwan Village (an ancient village located on the back of the Old Ox Ridge in Shanxi) ---- Wanjiazhai Water Control Project (the first water conservancy project on the Yellow River entering Shanxi, with the reservoir stretching dozens of miles through the Shanxi-Mongolia Gorge, and the Wanjiazhai Suspension Bridge is spectacular). Sha Hu Kou:During the Ming Dynasty, it was called "Sha Hu Kou" (Kill the Hu People Pass). At that time, the Mongols frequently invaded the Great Wall from the south, often using this pass as their breakthrough point. The Ming army also frequently marched out of the Great Wall to engage in battle through this pass, hence the fierce-sounding name. The Qing rulers adopted a conciliatory policy toward the Mongolian nobility and changed the character “Hu” (胡, meaning barbarians) to “Hu” (虎, meaning tiger). Thus, the name Sha Hu Kou has been used to this day. The historical story of "Going West through the Pass" also took place here.

Laoniuwan Fort (in Inner Mongolia): The Yellow River winds through eighteen bends, the divine ox plows the river to Pianguan; when the lantern lights up and startles it, it turns and plows out Old Ox Bend.

Qing Shui He: Qinghe County is an old revolutionary base area with a long history and glorious traditions. Human activity in the region dates back over 6,000 years to the Neolithic Age. During wartime, more than 10,000 locals joined the revolution, and over 700 sacrificed their lives. Originally under the jurisdiction of the Ulanqab League, it was transferred to Hohhot at the end of 1995. The county covers a total area of 2,822 square kilometers, with 2 towns, 9 townships, 102 administrative villages, and 780 natural villages. Its population is 135,000, including 116,000 agricultural residents. The area is home to various ethnic groups including Han, Mongolian, Hui, Manchu, Daur, Russian, Xibo, Uyghur, Ewenki, and Oroqen.
