His name was Pan Dengming, the first person in human history to travel around the world on foot. Holding the belief of "wiping away the shame of the 'Sick Man of East Asia' and seeking glory for the world," he left China in the summer of 1930 and returned to Shanghai in 1937, taking a total of eight years. He visited over 40 countries and met with heads of state and notable figures from more than 20 nations. He paid homage to the poet Rabindranath Tagore, was received by Mahatma Gandhi, had Hitler paint his portrait, and was given a gold medal personally by Roosevelt... In 1937, to support the war of resistance, he generously donated the $100,000 given to him by overseas Chinese for his travels to aid the cause.
