Spring has come with flowers blooming — it’s a season of renewal and a great time for outdoor activities. To better promote national fitness and further enhance the physical health of China’s youth, the 2013 KAILAS “Climbing Stars of Hope” National Youth Rock Climbing Promotion Event, organized by the General Administration of Sport of China and the Chinese Mountaineering Association, and hosted by local mountaineering associations and rock climbing clubs, will kick off across the country in April. Running from April to November, the event will be held in 40 cities nationwide including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Xi'an, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qingdao, Suzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Kunming, Yinchuan, and Guilin. The professional outdoor brand KAILAS is fully supporting this initiative.

As is well known, rock climbing is a fun sport that has gained increasing popularity among outdoor enthusiasts, especially the youth. Since 2009, the professional outdoor brand KAILAS has supported and sponsored the National Youth Rock Climbing Promotion Event for four consecutive years, which has achieved positive results across the country. Through professional rock climbing organizations introducing, training, coaching, and selecting young climbers, local “Stars of Hope” are chosen, followed by national training and selection to identify the national climbing stars. This approach of promoting youth outdoor sports through comprehensive activities such as training, selection, intensive camps, and competitions has been widely welcomed by parents and students.

To better showcase the charm of rock climbing and popularize basic climbing skills, the event includes a wide range of training displays and competitions. These cover basic knowledge of rock climbing and the use of equipment, performances by outstanding athletes, training sessions, as well as formal competitions such as difficulty climbs, speed climbs, bouldering, and fun climbing events. The activities are also divided into five age groups for both boys and girls: Youth Group (18–19 years), Junior A Group (16–17 years), Junior B Group (14–15 years), Junior C Group (11–13 years), and Junior D Group (8–10 years), basically covering all youth climbers.

Rock climbing is a new and fashionable sport; it is an extreme sport of passion and courage, as well as an interesting activity of wisdom and skill. It is a basic human ability and a way for humans to surpass their physical limits... Currently, this emerging and trendy sport is developing rapidly around the world, and China is no exception. National fitness starts with the youth, and the greatest hope for promoting the widespread adoption of national fitness lies unquestionably with the youth. Clearly, rock climbing, too, must start with the kids.
As a professional climbing brand, KAILAS has not only been committed to promoting the development of China’s grassroots mountaineering and exploration sports — including sponsoring individual expeditions and major outdoor events — but has also driven public welfare projects such as the “KAILAS Outdoor Coaches Growth Program,” “KAILAS Climbing Team,” and “KAILAS Mountaineering and Exploration School.” These initiatives have cultivated a large number of key reserve talents for China’s mountaineering and outdoor sports. Special emphasis has been placed on nurturing youth. All these efforts have made significant contributions to the popularization and development of mountaineering and outdoor sports in China.
