On the evening of May 5, 2013, the final day of the Shanghai Midi Festival, China’s leading metal magazine Heavy Music will team up with the Midi performance brand "Midi After" to bring you the American super metalcore band AS I LAY DYING, together with three other rising stars from different countries – THE GHOST INSIDE, SYBREED, and THE FALLING. They’re parachuting into Shanghai to witness the ultimate evolution of metal.

Formed in 2007, they quickly began touring alongside major acts like AS I LAY DYING, A DAY TO REMEMBER, I KILLED THE PROM QUEEN, AUGUST BURNS RED, MISERY SIGNALS, BLEEDING THROUGH, PARKWAY DRIVE, and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. Especially after signing with the legendary label Epitaph in 2012, their album Get What You Give debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 88 and No. 8 on the Hard Rock chart—an astonishing achievement that cemented their status as leaders in the metalcore scene. Subsequent tours saw them supported by fellow rising stars MISS MAY I and EMMURE. They’ve also been invited to top-tier festivals worldwide, including the UK’s Download Festival, France’s Hellfest, Austria’s Nova Rock, and Germany’s With Full Force. SYBREED (Apocalyptic Hybrid) is from Switzerland. The harmonious air of Geneva gave birth to SYBREED’s unique genre, Death Wave. Their music blends industrial and electronic elements beneath downtuned heavy metal rhythms—today, we might call it experimental or Djent. A failed secret experiment allowed the subject SYBREED to harness the powers of heavy industry and new wave sounds, mutating into an acoustic monster. Each note is packed with highly radioactive elements, and its overloaded invisible rays can obliterate your nerves and spirit. The truly deadly part? It doesn’t happen all at once. THE FALLING (Fallen)
China’s most internationally promising rising star in modern heavy music. This young metal legion, formed by five musicians from across the country, was founded in Shenzhen and is now based in Beijing. In 2012, as champions of the WOA Metal Battle China finals, they performed at Wacken Open Air—the world’s largest metal festival—in Germany, earning unanimous praise from European metal media. Led by vocalist Yutian, who studied abroad, and backed by a group of like-minded comrades, they’re determined to forge a new path in today’s music scene. With entirely English lyrics, a Westernized yet distinctly Chinese musical style, ferocious metalcore rhythms, and meticulously crafted melodies, they’re making their global ambitions clear. Their experience sharing stages with international acts like In Flames, Lamb of God, Heaven Shall Burn, and Unearth has honed their live performance to a high standard. This spring, they’re set to release their debut full-length album, “From Omega Back to Alpha.” Given time, they’ll surely shine China’s metal light on the international stage.
