10 reasons to fall in love with cycling

Last updated 2026-11-08 — Yesterday it was still chilly, but today the sun is shining brightly. The temperature seems to be playing tricks on people — winter clothes haven’t been put away yet, and summer attire is already making an appearance. For outdoor enthusiasts, the sudden rise in temperature also means it’s time to switch to summer-ready gear for outdoor trips. Summer outdoor travel requires...

1. Ride to green spaces
Studies show that being in green outdoor environments makes us happier. So, take your bike for a spin around the nearby park or try hiking. You’ll feel an unprecedented sense of relaxation while cycling outdoors.
2. Set a destination
Plan a long ride to the beach or explore a neighborhood you’ve never visited. Or, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, take a train or car out of the city to the countryside and blaze new trails. These biking adventures can be even more rewarding than traveling.
3. Ride with others
My boyfriend and I bought bikes not long after we started dating, and many of our dates involved cycling — we went everywhere and had so much fun. But you don’t have to ride with someone special. Find a biking buddy or meet new cycling friends. Riding with others not only makes the experience more enjoyable but also helps expand your social circle.
4. Explore
Seeing your city from a bicycle offers a completely different perspective. It’s a magical feeling, like seeing the countryside for the first time from a train window. With more and more bike lanes available, you can observe your city from new angles. So take some time to enjoy this unique experience.
5. Enjoy traffic-free travel
I often cycle past cars stuck in traffic, grateful that I chose not to drive or take the bus to work. Nothing beats a relaxing weekend bike ride, though commuting by bike comes in a close second on my list of favorite things.
6. Look forward to a drink and snacks after cycling
Of course, there are many ways to reward yourself — choose your favorite. Personally, I love treating myself to ice cream after a ride. Either way, going out for a bike ride and some snacks is way better than lounging in bed.
7. Buy a new pair of shoes
When you start investing in your bike (as mentioned, you don’t need to buy an expensive one), you’ll realize cycling isn’t costly at all. If you bike to work every day, you’ll soon find your bank account in better shape. Use the money you save to treat yourself to a new pair of shoes.
8. Decorate your bike
If you’re really into design or shopping, you can add new gear or accessories to your bike. Upgrade your ride, get a stylish bell, pick a practical and attractive pump for by the door, or buy tools that make cycling easier. If you manage to save on transportation costs, you might even be able to afford a high-end bicycle brand soon.
9. Cycle more for fitness
When exploring your city, occasionally venture off your usual route and head to places like suburban beaches. Without even realizing it, you’ll be burning calories rapidly — cycling itself is a great workout, and you won’t need to spend time or money at the gym.
10. Look at yourself in the mirror after cycling
Whether you’re self-obsessed or not, you’ll be thrilled to see the new muscles you’ve gained from cycling.
