Reporters learned at the Second General Assembly and First Leadership Election of the China Diving and Salvage Industry Association, held in Beijing on May 30, that since its establishment in 2008, the association has trained over 5,900 diving and salvage professionals for the industry. Over the past five years since its establishment, the China Diving and Salvage Industry Association has actively led member units to participate in industry development. It has successively formulated and issued 13 guiding documents for the industry. The association has also meticulously organized qualification evaluations. As of January this year, a total of 88 member units have obtained diving organization qualifications, and 54 member units have obtained salvage organization qualifications. The association has also focused on improving the quality of professional training, training over 5,900 diving and salvage professionals in five years, including more than 4,800 divers, 210 diving supervisors, over 270 life support technicians, over 120 diving medical technicians, over 80 salvage engineers, and over 340 safety officers. By the end of 2012, the number of association member units had grown from 109 at the time of establishment to 251.
Song Jiahui, Safety Director of the Ministry of Transport and the newly elected Chairman of the Diving and Salvage Industry Association, proposed adhering to the “Five Balances”—balancing service and supervision, publicity and development, innovation and accumulation, collaboration and benefits, as well as standards and characteristics—to promote the comprehensive, coordinated, and sustainable development of the diving and salvage industry.
