The second part of the press conference featured an introduction by the Scientific Research Team. The team also presented a video that briefly introduced this year’s team composition and research topic—“A Study on the Tea Culture of the Blang Ethnic Group in Yunnan.” Additionally, the video showcased footage of the team’s formation, early preparations, and daily training.
Following the video, Zou Sihan, the captain of the 2013 Scientific Research Team, gave a speech covering the reasons for choosing the topic, the challenges faced, as well as the highlights and challenges of this research expedition. From his speech, it was clear that “culture”-focused topics are very rare among research projects undertaken by Chinese university students. This marks a bold shift for the society from natural to humanistic studies, which also means facing more unknowns and challenges. Captain Zou Sihan also acknowledged the efforts of the team members over the past six months and expressed full confidence in this year’s research mission.
A speech was also given by Xing Yan, one of the council members. Xing Yan shared her thoughts as a former team member, saying that “stepping into nature makes you realize how small you are, and stepping into culture helps you understand its value.” This sentiment also reflects her expectations for this year’s research team.
Toward the end of the press conference, we held a flag presentation ceremony. Society President Liu Xin and council member Xing Yan presented flags to the 2013 KAILAS Mountaineering Team and the SANDSTONE Scientific Research Team of Beihang University's Lingfeng Society. Both key members of the society have high hopes for this summer’s activities.
Subsequently, members of both teams took group photos with the attending guests and fellow societies. The team members were highly enthusiastic and confident about the upcoming summer activities, creating a very lively atmosphere, and the press conference concluded successfully.
We wish the 2013 Beihang University Lingfeng Society Mountaineering Team success in reaching the summit, and also look forward to the Scientific Research Team achieving fruitful research results.
