Outdoor sports originated in the UK in the 1970s, primarily taking the form of mountain-based outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, camping, hunting, mountaineering, rock climbing, skiing, and more. As mountain outdoor sports became increasingly popular, the two seemingly unrelated words “SPORTS” (sports) and “MOUNTAIN” (mountain) became closely associated in the conversations of outdoor enthusiasts. Eventually, a new colloquial word was born from the combination of “SPORTS” and “MOUNTAIN”: “SPOUNTIN”. This marks the beginning of the SPOUNTIN story: In March 1983, 37-year-old Scottish snowboard enthusiast Mr. Simon Anderson and his friends manufactured his first surfboard in a small workshop in the coastal city of Aberdeen, England. Proudly, he gave his surfboard a then-popular name in the outdoor community: SPOUNTIN.
Anderson’s surfboard business was very successful, and at the request of friends, in 1992 he began producing a limited number of snowboards and rollerblades.
In 1998, Anderson’s friend, French snowboard designer Ms. Christine, designed the famous tri-board logo for him. This logo vividly depicted the three board sports—snowboarding, surfing, and rollerblading—and received high praise within the industry.
In 2008, Mr. Anderson retired and sold all his business operations to a UK investment company, MERCHANTS UNION (UK) LIMITED (British United Merchants Company). In the same year, British United Merchants Company established the SPOUNTIN team in Manchester, England, hiring several senior designers and outdoor product experts to develop and design outdoor apparel, clothing, and gear with a snowboard-inspired style.
In 2009, British United Merchants Limited signed a cooperation agreement with Jiaxing Extreme Sports Apparel Company, authorizing it as the exclusive producer and distributor of SPOUNTIN products in China.
In 2010, SPOUNTIN officially entered the Chinese market, opening its first retail counter at Beijing SOGO (Beijing Zhongsheng Chongguang Department Store).
In 2012, Zhejiang SPOUNTIN Outdoor Products Co., Ltd. was established to take full responsibility for the brand’s operations and sales in China.
