On July 25, the second day of the 2013 Asia Outdoor Exhibition, professional visitors flocked to the event, with a notable number attending as families. Children in casual sportswear could occasionally be spotted around the exhibition halls. This year’s show fully showcased family-oriented outdoor elements, featuring products such as parent-child outdoor apparel, family camping equipment, children’s outdoor clothing, and gear.

The ever-popular MobiGarden set up a dedicated area to showcase its children’s product line. The 2013 autumn/winter and 2014 new collections of kids’ outdoor wear featured vibrant colors, with waterproof and windproof functionality as basics. The garments included an “ID tag” on the inner layer where names and addresses could be written, and zippers were enhanced with reflective strips for added safety. “If a child is walking at night, these reflective strips alert oncoming drivers to slow down, increasing safety,” said Niu Yingfei, operations manager of MobiGarden’s children’s apparel division. Another eye-catching item in the MobiGarden booth was its “self-inflating” sleeping mat. With a twist cap resembling a drink bottle lid, the mat inflates automatically when opened. Once inflated, the mat is soft and elastic, with a texture similar to a yoga mat, making it ideal for resting on grassy fields. It can be rolled up and carried easily after the air is squeezed out.
Located in Hall A, Alpine Alps was another bustling spot. As a promoter of family outdoor culture, Alpine Alps this year sponsored the Huang Haitao family—volunteers for the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games—on their Europe-Asia-Arctic adventure expedition. The brand advocates transitioning from individual outdoor activities to family-oriented ones, encouraging more families to consider the true meaning of a “family outdoor lifestyle.” Alpine Alps’ 2014 new apparel collection features bright colors, with a focus on its signature softshell series. This series combines functions such as windproofing, rain resistance, warmth, quick drying, and durability, all while offering a comfortable and soft feel. Uniquely, children’s clothing is not simply matching versions of adult designs. For example, Alpine Alps’ children’s windbreakers incorporate color elements from both parents’ jackets, resulting in even more vivid hues. “This is a special design by Alpine Alps to respect children’s independence and creativity,” said Zeng Jiaofeng, marketing manager at Alpine Alps.
Advocating for family-oriented outdoor camping is the core theme of KingCamp. The KingCamp booth, located near the China Bouldering Open in Hall C, was especially popular with children due to its many adorable animal-shaped foldable chairs. Kids’ tents, foldable outdoor beds, and colorful chairs captivated young visitors and their parents alike. “It’s a shame they’re not for retail—if they were, I’d definitely buy one for my son,” one mother expressed regret. Additionally, KingCamp’s 2014 car tent, a major highlight, was well received. Suitable for both SUVs and regular sedans, the tent uses four support poles: two are attached to the rear wheel rims of the car, while the other two can be inserted into the ground or tied to foldable chairs for stability. “The tent’s skylight and ventilation system reflect KingCamp’s user-friendly design, especially the side-top ventilation that enhances stability—even in strong winds,” a KingCamp staff member enthusiastically demonstrated to visitors.
More and more family-oriented outdoor elements are being integrated into professional outdoor gear. Taking children on hikes or trips is a favored activity for many parents, and leisure-focused family outdoor experiences are becoming the trend of the future. Tomorrow is the third day of the Asia Outdoor Exhibition—stay tuned for more exciting discoveries ahead!
