At 11:15 am on the 15th, the Yingbinlu Squadron of Huairou Fire Rescue Brigade received an emergency call reporting that among 10 hikers on the wild Jiankou section of the Great Wall, a middle-aged woman had unfortunately fallen and sustained injuries. She suffered a wrist fracture as well as multiple injuries to her legs and waist, leaving her unable to descend the mountain and in need of rescue. Firefighters swiftly mobilized and rushed to the scene to carry out the rescue operation.
Upon arriving at the foot of the mountain, the rescue team quickly regrouped with the six hikers who had managed to descend on their own. Together with local police and the village committee, they formed a temporary command center and rescue unit to discuss the rescue plan. The earlier descending hikers knew the exact location of the injured woman, which greatly assisted the rescue efforts. After finalizing the plan, the rescuers prepared the necessary mountain rescue gear at the base—including especially a body immobilization airbag and a collapsible stretcher—while also bringing ample water, food, and some first aid supplies before beginning the trek up the mountain. After one hour of arduous climbing, they finally reached the location where the injured female tourist was.
The injured woman was found lying on the ground, in pain and afraid to move. A few fellow hikers sat nearby keeping her company. The rescue team provided initial treatment for her injuries. Considering the risk of secondary harm during descent, the on-site commander made the decisive decision to use a body immobilization airbag for protection and a collapsible stretcher for the evacuation. Due to the rugged, steep mountain path and the fact that the injured woman weighed nearly 80 kilograms, the descent was particularly challenging. After two hours of strenuous effort, the injured tourist was safely escorted to the foot of the mountain.
It is understood that the 10 tourists met online and decided to take advantage of their weekend break to hike the wild section of the Great Wall together for sightseeing.
