Reporters learned from the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the Tibet Autonomous Region Sports Bureau on the 15th that this autumn’s mountaineering activities in Tibet have already begun. It is expected that nearly 300 domestic and international mountaineers will come to Tibet during the golden autumn season to challenge their target peaks.

Data from the mountaineering management center show that 254 mountaineers from countries and regions such as Nepal, Austria, the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, and South Korea plan to climb in Tibet this autumn. Most foreign mountaineers will attempt to scale the world’s sixth highest peak, Cho Oyu (8,201 meters), or the world’s fourteenth highest peak, Shishapangma (8,012 meters).

Meanwhile, 32 Chinese climbers will take on Cho Oyu and Ningjin Kangsha Peak (7,206 meters) this autumn. The team climbing Cho Oyu has already arrived at the base camp at an altitude of 4,950 meters, and the climbing activities on Ningjin Kangsha Peak are set to officially begin in early October.

Tibet boasts abundant mountain resources, including five peaks above 8,000 meters — among them, the “Roof of the World,” Mount Everest — over 70 peaks above 7,000 meters, and thousands of peaks above 6,000 meters, providing ideal conditions for mountaineering activities.
