The first stop of the national public lecture tour of the "National Outdoor Safety Education Program," organized by the Chinese Mountaineering Association, officially kicked off on the afternoon of the 28th at China University of Geosciences (Beijing). The lecture was open to the public free of charge, aiming to help more outdoor enthusiasts understand the basics of risk avoidance and safety assurance during outdoor activities through such events.
The upcoming National Day holiday will once again be a peak period for outdoor enthusiasts to travel. The organizers also hope to take this opportunity to remind enthusiasts to always prioritize "safety" while enjoying the pleasures of outdoor activities.
Li Zhixin, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Mountaineering Association, emphasized in his speech that for those planning to travel during the holiday, it is essential to make thorough preparations beforehand—researching the climate, environment, and routes of the destination, bringing all necessary outdoor gear; choosing activities that match one’s abilities, and traveling with technically proficient and experienced companions or organizations; outdoor leaders must have professional qualifications, be rigorous and responsible, and report to the local mountaineering association or relevant departments as soon as possible before departure or when issues arise, in accordance with regulations, to obtain timely rescue and reduce injuries.
The "National Outdoor Safety Education Program" is a large-scale public welfare initiative aimed at the whole society, launched in response to the current severe situation of outdoor safety amid the rapid development of outdoor sports in China. Drawing on international experience and social needs, it focuses on outdoor safety education and awareness. Its goal is to promote the concepts of "safety, science, and environmental protection" in outdoor activities, enhance outdoor safety awareness, popularize basic outdoor safety knowledge, and drive the healthy development of outdoor sports.
The "National Outdoor Safety Education Program" will carry out extensive and sustained outdoor safety education and publicity across society by distributing outdoor safety promotional materials, organizing national lecture tours, TV lectures, training sessions, and other educational activities, as well as creating outdoor safety columns across various media platforms. It integrates multiple government and social resources and efforts to raise public awareness of outdoor risks, help people understand and master basic methods and techniques for dealing with outdoor risks, and effectively prevent and reduce the occurrence of outdoor safety incidents.
In 2013, the "National Outdoor Safety Education Program" will implement eight key tasks: developing outdoor safety education and promotional materials, organizing national lecture tours on outdoor safety, hosting outdoor safety TV lectures, developing outdoor safety training programs, establishing outdoor safety education bases, forming a volunteer-based team of lecturers and safety advocates, conducting outdoor safety seminars and research, and analyzing outdoor accidents.
The "National Outdoor Safety Education Program" is conducted under the guidance and support of the General Administration of Sport of China, funded by the China Sports Lottery Public Welfare Fund and the Chinese Olympic Committee Foundation, and organized by the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and the Chinese Mountaineering Association. Various local sports departments, mountaineering and outdoor associations, clubs, schools, enterprises, and institutions also participate. (End)
