A female mainland tourist surnamed Wang, who was visiting Taiwan on an individual travel permit, got lost while hiking alone on Yangmingshan on September 26. Police and firefighters searched through the night for eight hours and found her in a stream valley near the Wish Bridge at Qingshuiyuan at around 2:00 a.m. on September 27.

China News Service, September 28 — According to Taiwan’s United Daily News, a woman surnamed Wang from Shanghai hiked alone on Yangmingshan in Taiwan at around 2:00 p.m. on September 26 but went missing in the mountainous area. Police and firefighters searched through the night and finally found her at 2:30 a.m. on September 27. Fortunately, she only suffered from shock and was unharmed. She flew out of Taiwan that evening.

Taiwan police said the 41-year-old woman surnamed Wang learned about the scenic beauty of Yangmingshan online. On September 26, she took a bus from Taipei to Bayan Settlement to go hiking, but because she hadn’t planned a route in advance and didn’t bring any tools such as a map to help with orientation, she got lost in the deep mountains. At around 6:00 p.m., seeing that it was getting dark, she used her mainland mobile phone on roaming to call for help.

As the woman’s exact location was unknown, police, firefighters, and members of the disaster rescue association searched separately. Along the way, the woman and the on-site commander kept in touch by phone every one to two hours. Police also activated sirens every 30 minutes to let her know they were still searching nearby.

After eight hours of searching, shortly after 2:00 a.m., the Yangmingshan Police Squad finally found the woman in a stream valley near the Wish Bridge at Qingshuiyuan. It was raining and the temperature was around 20 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, the woman was wearing long sleeves and pants and had taken shelter under a wind-blocking cliff, so she did not suffer from hypothermia.
