At 7:00 PM on November 8, 2013, the Peking University Mountain Eagle Society Camel Scientific Expedition Team’s “Yunyao: Exploring Gaoligong” Scientific Expedition Report Meeting was successfully held in Room 106 of the Science Teaching Building at Peking University. Qian Junwei from the Mass Sports Office of the Peking University Department of Physical Education and Zhang Tianran, Executive Deputy Minister of the Student Group Department of the Peking University Youth League Committee, attended the event. In addition, representatives from influential media outlets such as Lvye.com, Sina.com, and Xinhua News Agency, as well as representatives from outdoor clubs of various universities, were present.
The scientific expedition activities of the Peking University Mountain Eagle Society are a classic and traditional part of the society. Since 1992, the society has organized one scientific expedition each year, covering western provinces and autonomous regions such as Xinjiang, Qinghai, Tibet, and Yunnan, venturing into more than forty towns and villages, collecting a large amount of first-hand data, and completing over a hundred research topics. This year, the society chose the Gaoligong Mountain area of the Nujiang River in Yunnan as its expedition site, at an altitude of 1,700 meters. The expedition was divided into three parts: short-term anthropological surveys, high-altitude trekking, and flora and fauna observation. Among these, the materials from the anthropological survey and the flora and fauna observation were compiled into the research outcomes of this expedition. The 13 team members came from nine different departments across the university, covering both sciences and humanities, including both undergraduates and postgraduates. Finally, based on investigations into the social structure, political ecology, religious beliefs, and linguistics of the Lisu ethnic community, the expedition team completed a research report titled “Trees Among the Clouds — An Ethnographic Study Based on a Lisu Community.”
