At 14:50 on October 30, 2013, KAILAS climbing team member Liu Yong and strong Sherpa climber Mingma made the first ascent of Bamong-Go Peak, located at an altitude of 6,400 meters in Nepal's Rolwailing Valley.
According to current information, no Chinese climber has ever completed the first ascent of a mountain in Nepal, and there are very few records worldwide of Chinese climbers making first ascents of unclimbed peaks or new routes abroad. This marks the first attempt at an unclimbed peak on the southern side of the Himalayas since KAILAS launched its Unclimbed Peaks Program.
About Bamong-Go Mountain
Since mountaineering expeditions began on the southern slopes of the Himalayas more than half a century ago, the Nepalese side has attracted a large number of Western explorers. In the past 30 years, many peaks have been climbed by mountaineers from around the world, leaving only a small number of high-difficulty peaks still untouched by human footsteps. Bamong-Go is one of them. It is located in Nepal’s Na Rolwaling area. Due to its remote location, only a few Western mountaineering teams have attempted to climb it, but none have succeeded in reaching the summit. Its steep rock faces are covered with thick snow and ice. Rolwaling is a valley inhabited by the Sherpa people, known for its tranquility and beauty. The valley is home to many snow-capped mountains, including Gaurishankar, Parchamo, Ramdung, Yalung Ri, Cheki-Go, Bamong-Go (unclimbed), Thanak Peak (unclimbed), Chobutse (unclimbed), Na Chugo, and other notable peaks. Many Sherpas in the Rolwailing Valley have summited numerous peaks in the Himalayas. Almost all the male Sherpas here have climbed Mount Everest, with some having reached the summit as many as 18 times.
