From November 2 to November 3, 2013, the 2013 Dali Cangshan Erhai Trail Race was successfully held in Dali, Yunnan, China. Team members Guan Yadi and Wang Zichen from STTEAM, representing STONEHAM, competed alongside more than 800 trail running enthusiasts from home and abroad. Ultimately, Wang Zichen achieved an impressive fourth-place finish in the 100-kilometer Dali Cangshan Erhai Trail Race with a time of 14 hours and 28 minutes, earning a gold finisher’s medal; Guan Yadi also secured a high ranking in the 50-kilometer race and received a silver finisher’s medal.
The Dali Cangshan Erhai Trail Race is the sister event to the Dalian 100-Kilometer Trail Race. The race director is Mr. Yu Lei, who is also a contracted athlete of STONEHAM. The 100-kilometer course covers major mountainous areas of Cangshan Mountain and the countryside around Erhai Lake in Dali City, with a total elevation gain of 2,920 meters and a highest altitude of 4,092 meters; the 50-kilometer course shares about four-fifths of the route with the 100-kilometer course, featuring a total elevation gain of 2,256 meters. Due to the high difficulty level of the event, the Dali Cangshan Erhai Trail Race has been approved as a UTMB points race—finishers of the 100km will earn 3 points, while those completing the 50km will receive 1 point.
It is reported that this was the first competitive appearance for the ST TEAM since its formation, primarily aimed at preparing for the 2014 UTWT. Currently, three ST TEAM members—Guan Yadi, Yu Lei, and Wang Zichen—have confirmed their participation in the 2014 UTWT tour events: Vibram HK100 and the UTMF leg. The global trail running circuit will soon feature more Chinese trail runners.
