On the evening of November 15, 2013, at 7:00 PM, the "Peking University Camel Mountaineering Team Kizilseri Peak Expedition Report" was grandly held in the Moonlight Hall of the Yingjie Exchange Center at Peking University.
Building on climbing experiences and lessons from recent years, the Mountain Eagle Society focused its main efforts on "climbing training" and "mountain reconnaissance," ultimately setting its sights on Kizilseri Peak, which stands at an elevation of 6,525 meters within the Kashgar region of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Kizilseri Peak features diverse terrain with well-developed glaciers, including scree slopes, snowfields, crevasses, snow slopes, and arêtes, making it ideal for student teams to enhance their comprehensive technical skills during independent climbs.
The climbing expedition began on July 18 when the team traveled from Karakul Lake to the base camp and concluded on August 4 when they withdrew from the base camp back to Kashgar, spanning a total of 18 days. Due to a snow bridge obstacle between 6,100 and 6,200 meters, the team did not reach the summit. However, all 20 team members and 3 coaches, except for one coach and one member who left early due to work commitments, reached at least 6,160 meters in altitude. Additionally, two veteran members and one coach ascended to 6,300 meters. During the climb, the team also reconnoitered the climbing route for 6,220 Peak, which belongs to the same Kongur Mountain Range. After completing the snow mountain climbing training activities, all members returned safely. Aside from Peking University and Tsinghua University mountaineering teams, there are currently no verifiable records of climbs on Kizilseri Peak in China. This exploration of the Kongur Mountain Range routes has further enriched China’s climbing routes, providing new challenges for domestic mountaineering enthusiasts and holding significant importance.
The report session invited Coach Luo Shen, Director of the High Altitude Expedition Department of the China Mountaineering Association; Mr. Le Chenglong, representative of Guangdong Camel Clothing Co., Ltd.; Quentin, representative of SALAWA (Salewa); Director Li Ning of the Physical Education Teaching and Research Section at Peking University; Deputy Secretary Wang Yiming of the Peking University Youth League Committee; Deputy Director Zhang Tianran of the Student Organizations Department of the Peking University Youth League Committee; and Teacher Qian Junwei, Director of the Mass Sports Office of the Physical Education Teaching and Research Section at Peking University and faculty advisor to the Mountain Eagle Society. The climbing report session was also attended by numerous media friends and representatives from various sister universities' clubs.
Director Li Ning of the Physical Education Teaching and Research Section at Peking University delivered the opening speech. He spoke highly of the enduring "Mountain Eagle Spirit" passed down through generations in the Mountain Eagle Society, while also expressing his reminders regarding safety issues and his hopes for the future development of the society.
Deputy Secretary Wang Yiming of the Peking University Youth League Committee spoke next, fully demonstrating the school’s understanding and care for the growth and development of the Mountain Eagle Society. The climbing expedition faced a severe safety situation amid frequent unrest, and the advance presence of Deputy Director Zhang Tianran of the Student Organizations Department ensured the safety of the team’s activities on-site. The support from the school and the Youth League Committee served as a solid backing for the growth of the Mountain Eagle Society.
Shi Haoyi, captain of the Camel Mountaineering Team and former president of the Mountain Eagle Society, provided a summary of the entire climbing expedition, outlining the process and the route exploration. Climbing Captain Jia Peishen gave a professional and detailed technical summary of the climb, covering aspects such as the route, schedule, and weather conditions.
The subsequent climbing documentary video, "Kizilseri Climbing Chronicle," presented the attendees and audience with a true-to-life account of the climbing journey. The stunning shots of the snow mountains and the team’s strenuous efforts allowed every viewer to feel the allure of the mountains and the hardships of climbing.
Mr. Le Chenglong, representative of Guangdong Camel Clothing Co., Ltd., also expressed affirmation and support for the Mountain Eagle Society in his speech and shared his positive outlook for the society’s future climbing activities.
Coach Luo Shen, Director of the High Altitude Expedition Department of the China Mountaineering Association, pointed out in his speech that the climbing practices of the Mountain Eagle Society have greatly promoted the rise and development of amateur mountaineering in China, especially university mountaineering. The climbing themes proposed by the Mountain Eagle Society in recent years, such as "green climbing" and "zero waste," have opened up new ideas for university students’ snow mountain climbing activities. The society’s consistent emphasis on independent climbing has cultivated a rare group of talents for China’s mountaineering community and has significantly advanced the development of the domestic mountaineering cause.
The climbing expedition was fully funded and provided with clothing sponsorship by Guangdong Camel Clothing Co., Ltd.; Salewa, as the chief technical equipment partner of Peking University’s Mountain Eagle Society, supplied technical gear for the team; GOTE sports glasses sponsored snow goggles and sports eyewear; Lupine provided climbing rope sponsorship; and Qianfu Physical Examination Center offered free health check-ups for the team members. Toward the end of the report session, the climbing team members took the stage to introduce themselves one by one. Their gestures and demeanor revealed deep camaraderie and teamwork, allowing the media and audience to gain further insight into the Mountain Eagle Society and the "Mountain Eagle Spirit" — to harbor the heart of an eagle and aspire to the heights. Finally, with the singing of all the climbing team members, the 2013 Kizilseri Peak Expedition Report by the Peking University Mountain Eagle Society Camel Mountaineering Team came to a successful close.
