The official 2014 holiday schedule has been released, with the Spring Festival and National Day holidays each featuring a 7-day break achieved through adjusted workdays. New Year’s Eve has been removed from the list and will not be a holiday. Under the new arrangement, the statutory Spring Festival holiday will run from the first to the third day of the Lunar New Year, instead of from New Year’s Eve to the second day. The Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival will each have a 3-day holiday. According to the 2007 “Regulations on Public Holidays for National Annual Festivals and Commemorative Days”? State Council Decree No. 513?—the only national holidays for all citizens in China total 11 days: 1 day for New Year’s Day, 3 days for the Spring Festival, 1 day for the Qingming Festival, 1 day for Labor Day, 1 day for the Dragon Boat Festival, 1 day for the Mid-Autumn Festival, and 3 days for National Day.
Notice of the General Office of the State Council on the Arrangement of Some Holidays in 2014
To the People’s Governments of all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government, and all ministries and commissions and directly affiliated institutions of the State Council:
With the approval of the State Council, the specific arrangements for the public holidays and adjusted workdays for New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day in 2014 are hereby notified as follows.
1. New Year’s Day: 1 day off on January 1.
2. Spring Festival: 7 days off from January 31 to February 6, achieved through adjusted workdays. Work will be scheduled on January 26 (Sunday) and February 8 (Saturday).
3. Qingming Festival: 1 day off on April 5. Makeup day on Monday, April 7.
4. Labor Day: 3 days off from May 1 to 3, achieved through adjusted workdays. Work will be scheduled on Sunday, May 4.
5. Dragon Boat Festival: 1 day off on June 2, connected with the weekend.
6. Mid-Autumn Festival: 1 day off on September 8, connected with the weekend.
7. National Day: 7 days off from October 1 to 7, achieved through adjusted workdays. Work will be scheduled on Sunday, September 28, and Saturday, October 11.
During the holiday periods, all regions and departments should properly arrange duty shifts and ensure security and safety. In the event of any major emergencies, they shall report them promptly and handle them appropriately in accordance with regulations to ensure that the people can enjoy peaceful and safe holidays.
