As the year-end approaches again, year-end bonuses have become a hot topic among employees. For those who have worked hard throughout the year, the year-end bonus is undoubtedly a shot in the arm—rewarding themselves for their hard work and efforts over the past 12 months, while also bringing new motivation and hope for the coming year. For hotels, the year-end bonus has become the most effective incentive measure at year-end, playing a crucial role in retaining key talent, boosting employee motivation, and enhancing staff loyalty.

Recently, Meadin conducted a small survey on the topic of year-end bonuses. The survey sample breakdown is as follows: by hotel ownership, 59% are private enterprises, 12% foreign-funded, 16% state-owned, and 11% other; by hotel star rating, 29% are unrated, 7% are three-star or below, 19% four-star, 33% five-star, and 10% other. Among the respondents, 10% were front-line staff, 26% junior management, 40% middle management, and 24% senior management.

Half of Hotels Give Year-End Bonuses to All Staff

Hotels distribute year-end bonuses in various forms, but cash remains the primary one. Aside from cash, other types of year-end rewards are not popular in the hospitality industry. 65% of respondents receive no form of bonus other than cash; 16% get physical gifts—some hotels offer practical items, though others distribute rather useless ones; 12% receive shopping cards or gift vouchers; and 4% are offered travel or holiday packages. After a year of hard work, employees hope to relax both mentally and physically, making travel a preferred leisure option—and a rewarding way to recognize their efforts.
