According to a report on March 23 from Russia's Komsomolskaya Pravda website, the health condition of legendary athlete Michael Schumacher has captured the hearts of racing fans worldwide. The seven-time Formula One world champion remains in a slow state of awakening. His condition is gradually improving, but doctors still cannot draw a definitive conclusion.
According to the latest information from doctors, Schumacher lost 20 kilograms during his hospitalization in a coma, meaning he shed 55 pounds in 83 days.
The attending physician told the public that such a reaction is normal when the human body is in a comatose state.
Subsequently, Germany’s Der Spiegel reported that due to Schumacher’s significant weight loss, there is a possibility of muscle function deterioration.
Schumacher’s family has been steadfast in their support, believing he will gradually recover. His wife has called on the media not to sensationalize his condition. Previously, some media reported that Schumacher had developed pneumonia. She told reporters that any information about Schumacher’s health not released by doctors is false.
“Red Baron” Schumacher suffered a severe head injury on December 29 of last year. While skiing in the French Alps, his head hit a rock. He is currently being treated at Grenoble Hospital.
Schumacher is facing two major surgeries to remove blood clots in his brain. Doctors believe these clots are the reason he remains in a coma, and they have decided to operate to reduce the resulting traumatic brain swelling.
Nevertheless, doctors say if Schumacher remains in a coma for an extended period, the chances of a full recovery are very slim. Many experts suggest he may spend the rest of his life in this state.
If Schumacher can successfully regain consciousness and begin recovering his health, it will take about a year. If he can successfully regain some physical functions such as eating and dressing independently, it would be a great victory for neurosurgery.
Of course, as an exceptional athlete, his physical condition, mental resilience, and immunity are all much higher than those of an average person. This is also one of the reasons why Schumacher has the potential to recover.
