It is reported that the avalanche took place on a ski slope at the "Rosa Khutor" alpine ski resort, burying six skiers, two of whom were female. The alpine skiing events of the Sochi Winter Olympics were held at "Rosa Khutor."
After the avalanche, Russia’s emergency services dispatched a plane and more than ten rescue vehicles to the site for search and rescue operations. The search and rescue efforts have now concluded, and the cause of the avalanche is under investigation.
