The full lineups for the 2014 Beijing & Shanghai Strawberry Music Festivals have been announced. The Beijing edition will feature eight stages: the Strawberry Stage, Love Stage, Weibo Musicians Stage, Heavy Stage, Planet Stage, Rock School Stage, Alienware Electronic Stage, and Chǎ Stage. Shanghai will host five stages: the Strawberry Stage, Love Stage, Q “Planet Stage,” Rock School Stage, and Electronic Stage. Together, the two cities will offer 13 stages and performances by nearly 260 acts. In addition, 24 guests will appear at the Strawberry (Douban) Life Pavilion in both cities, bringing the total number of performance and lecture guests to over 280.

I. Beijing & Shanghai Simultaneously: Defining the Super Strawberry Music Festival

From May 1st to 3rd, 2014, Beijing’s Tongzhou Canal Park and Shanghai’s Expo Park will simultaneously host the year’s grandest music celebrations—the May Day Strawberry Music Festivals in both cities. With 13 stages across Beijing and Shanghai and nearly 260 performing acts, this dual-city Strawberry Music Festival will set the benchmark for what a “super music festival” truly means.

In 2013, the simultaneous Beijing & Shanghai Strawberry editions occupied a combined area of 200,000 square meters and attracted 240,000 attendees over three days, setting a new standard for music festivals in China. In 2014, the Beijing & Shanghai Strawberry Music Festivals will feature an even more diverse lineup and more refined organization, striving to deliver a truly superlative Strawberry experience. Among the many domestic music festival brands, Strawberry stands out with its high-caliber artists, international stage standards, strong organizational capabilities, and exceptional on-site audience experiences. As a result, it has become China’s most influential, widely embraced, and best-loved music festival brand.

II. Big Names Open the Show: Breaking Convention with High-Energy Starts

Xie Tianxiao kicks things off. The 2014 Beijing Strawberry Music Festival breaks with tradition by starting with a leading domestic rock act—no slow warm-up, just instant excitement. On the first day, the new “godfather of rock,” Xie Tianxiao, will open, followed by GALA on the second day and Peng Tan on the third. Starting each day with headliner-level bands is a bold move for this year’s Strawberry.

III. Three Divas: Maggie Cheung Makes Her Festival Debut

The nation’s goddess Maggie Cheung, the indie darling Fish Leong (aka Chen Qizhen), and the disco queen Chang Chien—three icons from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China—will all take the stage at Beijing Strawberry. Maggie Cheung, the internationally acclaimed actress who signed with Modern Sky last month, will perform at the May Day Beijing & Shanghai Strawberry Festivals. She’ll be backed by a high-caliber five-piece band, marking her very first music festival appearance. Her involvement will undoubtedly elevate the 2014 Beijing & Shanghai Strawberry Festivals, drawing even larger crowds eager to witness her rockstar charisma. In addition to Maggie, indie favorite Fish Leong and retro queen Chang Chien will also perform. Fish Leong will make her Beijing Strawberry debut with her signature full band, while Chang Chien will team up again with New Pants to deliver a dazzling retro-disco experience to audiences in both cities.

IV. International Lineup: The Strongest and Most Diverse in Strawberry History

This year’s Strawberry has invited 30 overseas acts, including 16 major international bands and 14 renowned DJs, making it the most internationally stacked edition ever. The hottest French electronic act Justice—headline performers at top-tier festivals worldwide—will close the Beijing leg, marking the first time an electronic artist headlines a Strawberry closing set. Tongzhou Canal Park in Beijing and Expo Park in Shanghai will transform into epic EDM party zones. Legendary Finnish hard rockers HIM (a.k.a. His Infernal Majesty), known for their haunting vocals and explosive energy, are sure to ignite the Strawberry nights with nonstop revelry. American instrumental rock/post-rock masters Explosions in the Sky will build soaring walls of sound with their emotionally charged instrumentals and wildly infectious live shows. Other global heavyweights include Australia’s Cut Copy, Denmark’s Blue Foundation, Sweden’s Club 8, France’s Alcest, Finland’s Swallow the Sun, Japan’s Persefone, plus Dutch EDM star Outsiders, Dutch DJ Warren Fellow, and American remixer/producer AC Slater—who has rapidly risen to fame in recent years. A total of 30 international acts will take the stage at the 2014 Beijing & Shanghai Strawberry Festivals, delivering the most powerful and diverse international lineup to date. This May Day, Strawberry will rock both cities like never before, creating a truly superlative music experience. Beyond the stellar international acts, the festival will also welcome Hong Kong and Taiwan artists such as Anthony Wong (Shanghai only), Crowd Lu, Waa Wei, 831, and tfvsjs. The domestic lineup is equally formidable, featuring some of China’s most iconic acts: Zuoxiao Zuzhou, Tiers, Second Hand Rose, New Pants, Re-TROS, P.K.14, Hao Yun, Song Dongye, Su Yang, Hedgehog, Supermarket, Carsick Cars, Zhang Ling, Traveling Band, Low Wormwood, and Dragon-Tiger Dao.

V. Real Life: Welcome to the Strawberry Planet

The theme of this year’s Strawberry Music Festival is “SNS life is rubbish, get a real life!”—a call to step away from digital life and embrace genuine human connection. Strawberry’s signature Life Pavilion and Flirt Square will offer visitors authentic, face-to-face experiences. As China’s most influential and beloved music festival brand, Strawberry sets the standard with its star-studded lineups, international-stage quality, seamless organization, and unforgettable audience experiences. Backed by major brands like Ray-Ban, Dell, Yili, and Momo, and with Carlsberg’s European rock beer brand deeply involved in the Shanghai edition—bringing elements from world-famous festivals like Roskilde, Glastonbury, and Reading—the partnership enters its fifth year. Since its launch in 2009, Strawberry has become an essential outdoor music rite of spring for young people everywhere.

The most spring-like, rockin’, romantic, fresh, hippie, sexy, loving, diverse, and real Strawberry Music Festival is coming—get ready for the ultimate music celebration. Welcome to the Strawberry Planet, welcome to the real world.
