On April 21, China’s most renowned student mountaineering society — Peking University's Mountain Eagle Society — announced the official formation of the 2014 Camel Mountaineering Team and Scientific Expedition Team, and on May 6 revealed their preliminary climbing and research plans for the year.

The mountaineering team consists of 19 members, including 9 veterans and 10 rookies, and the initial plan is to challenge Sandan Kangsang Peak in Tibet for the third time. The scientific expedition team has 15 members, with the target exploration area being the Guoluo region in the heart of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. This year, both challenges will continue to be supported by CAMEL, providing a full set of professionally customized gear to ensure the young Eagle Society members can advance with confidence.

The nine-year itch — the mountaineering team tentatively plans to summit Sandan Kangsang again

After a nine-year hiatus, the Peking University Mountain Eagle Society's mountaineering team is tentatively planning to challenge Sandan Kangsang Peak once more. The peak was successfully summited via different routes in 2000 and 2005, but the training-focused Mountain Eagle Society still considers Sandan Kangsang its top choice for climbing objectives. Whether they will revisit the same route is still subject to final confirmation.

CAMEL Professional Gear Powers the Eagle Society

In early 2013, Peking University's Mountain Eagle Society formed a strategic partnership with outdoor leader Camel. Camel provides the society with a full range of professional outdoor gear for daily training, outdoor programs, hiking, and mountaineering, supporting every journey of the young Eagle members.

To prepare for this year’s two challenge goals, the Peking University Mountain Eagle Society has already begun a series of physical training sessions. In early May, they successfully completed a heavy-load joint training hike in Hebei Province’s Da Haituo Nature Reserve. Despite facing strong winds, thunderstorms, and hail, the team responded well, building mental resilience and enhancing real-world emergency response experience. CAMEL is currently preparing custom gear for the society. Let’s look forward to the Peking University Mountain Eagle Society’s outstanding performance in 2014!
