Currently, students at the University of Liverpool in the UK are working on developing the world's fastest bicycle, the Arion1. The appearance of the Arion1 is different from that of a typical bicycle.
It is definitely not the kind of ordinary bicycle you would see on the street. Its design resembles a pill capsule, with the entire body wrapped in lightweight carbon fiber, forming a streamlined shell with a smooth surface to minimize air resistance as much as possible.
According to engineers, this bicycle will become the world's fastest human-powered vehicle, reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour. The development team of the Arion1 consists of eight mechanical engineering students from the University of Liverpool. They will spend two years in the School of Engineering to complete the construction of the Arion1.
It is said that they are developing this bicycle to participate in the annual event held in September 2015 in Battle Mountain, Nevada, which selects the world's fastest bicycle. This event is organized by the International Human Powered Vehicle Association.
Team member Patrick Harper explained: “For the 2015 WHPSC challenge, we will send one male and one female rider. But our goal is absolutely not just to participate in the race—we want to win it!” To prepare for this competition, the team will complete the design and manufacturing of the Arion1 by May 2015. Let’s wait and see what happens.
