The press conference for The Road to Discovery: "Exploring Getu — The Global MBA EMBA Jungle Crossing Challenge," organized by Zhijin Miao and Buyi Autonomous County in Guizhou Province, co-hosted by Guizhou Getu Tourism Development Co., Ltd. and the Business School EMBA Outdoor Sports Alliance, executed by Qianbaidu Communication Agency, and supported by the Ziyun Getu River Cave Scenic Area Management Office, with exclusive operation by Meiye Sports, will be grandly held on August 16, 2014, in the Golden Hall of the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest).
At that time, Qianbaidu Communication Agency, the executive body of the competition, will officially announce the nearly 100-kilometer route plan for the event on behalf of the organizing committee for the first time, while also introducing the progress and status of the event’s organization and preparation.
A Mix of Surprises and Obstacles
Zhijin in Guizhou is located in the southwestern part of the province, within the Anshun region. The Getu River that flows through this area is like the spiritual lifeblood of the Miao people, not only nurturing the land but also witnessing the historical rise and fall of the world’s last cave-dwelling tribe.
Here, there are many geographically and culturally mysterious wonders, such as the Getu River hanging coffins rarely visited by outsiders except locals and research teams, the magical and magnificent Heavenly Divine Light, the ancient ruins of King Yalu’s City filled with historical vicissitudes, and the flowing underground rivers...
According to officials from the organizing committee, during this challenge, over the course of four full days and nights, global MBA EMBA participants will undertake an unprecedented outdoor survival experience — from trekking through primeval forests to rafting underground rivers, from climbing sky-high ladders to thrilling speed rappelling. In addition to testing their physical limits, participants will also undergo a spiritual baptism. Following in the footsteps of King Yalu, the greatest leader in Miao history, they will listen by the campfire at night to the "King Yalu" epic, a Miao heroic saga included in China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2009. They will experience its grand historical migration scenes that transcend time and space, as well as the tragic and heroic legends of territorial expansion.

Although the Getu River culture has a long history, due to the inconvenient transportation and communication facilities in the local villages, the area has remained relatively isolated. Not only are its economy and education relatively underdeveloped, but in the complex karst landform environment, there is even hardly any “road” in the true sense. The “roads” from Miao villages to schools and other villages, strictly speaking, can only be described as rocky trails.
Perhaps for explorers, the karst-desertified Getu River basin boasts breathtakingly beautiful scenery, but for the local children, it is a difficult daily journey to school that takes five or six hours. They must traverse countless winding paths and even climb rocks using both hands and feet...
In such a complex environment, building a road is a great hope and luxury for the locals. A single road could completely change their lives.
Therefore, after the completion of The Road to Discovery: "Exploring Getu — The Global MBA EMBA Jungle Crossing Challenge," the organizing committee will join forces with all participants to fund the construction of a “Champions’ Road” between villages in the mountainous areas of Guizhou. This road will be named after the winning academy of the challenge, and the names of all participating teams and individuals will be engraved along the roadbed.
