Xiao Wutai Mountain is located in the southeastern part of Zhangjiakou City, spanning Yu County and Zhuolu County. It is named after its five prominent peaks—east, west, south, north, and central—to distinguish it from Shanxi Province’s Mount Wutai. With stunning scenery, Xiao Wutai was ranked among China's top ten "lesser-known" mountains by Chinese National Geography magazine in 2009. As a famous mountain among hiking enthusiasts, Xiao Wutai is remote and rugged, offering a pilgrimage-like challenge.
In July and August, Xiao Wutai Mountain serves as an exceptional destination for outdoor trekking, not only featuring fields of alpine Trollius flowers, wild poppies, and diverse wildlife, but also boasting breathtaking sunsets and starry skies. Therefore, hikers brave the hardships and traverse mountains and rivers just to witness its splendor.

Preparation is essential before trekking across Xiao Wutai. Choose your route scientifically and distribute your energy wisely. For a full traverse of the Five Summits, it is recommended to start from Beitai, proceed from Dongtai to the south, camp at Sancha, then continue to Xitai, Zhongtai, and Nantai.
