Recently, the water level of the Danjiangkou Reservoir, the source of the central route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, has risen significantly, and the long-awaited opening of the central route is now in the final countdown. The crystal-clear waters of the Danjiangkou Reservoir are “ready to go,” and once the starting signal is given, they will flow northward for 1,276 kilometers, passing through Henan and Hebei provinces, before finally reaching Beijing by gravity, delivering clear water to millions of households. This cross-basin mega-project, the South-to-North Water Diversion, will play a pivotal role in achieving rational allocation of water resources, alleviating water shortages in the north, and promoting coordinated economic, social, and environmental development between the south and north, as well as balancing population and resource distribution.
