Exiting the scenic area, we make our way back along the path we came. By now, the mist on the river has long dissipated, and a couple of fishing boats cut through the water, leaving behind long trails of ripples. The weight at the fishermen’s waists is a gift from the Nanla River. Just then, somewhere in the distance, the sound of singing drifts over, gently accompanied by the melodies of the Dai people’s hulusi flute — tender and affectionate, as if trying to persuade the distant guests to stay a while longer...
