This year, thanks to an economic diplomacy project hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in China, the Light Aircraft Association, together with the Czech Trade Promotion Agency, engaged closely with relevant players in China's general aviation sector to promote information exchange and introduce Czech businesses interested in the Chinese market to the latest developments. Mr. Fridrich, Vice President of the Czech Light Aircraft Association in charge of foreign affairs, has participated in at least three aviation-related exhibitions and several seminars, where he had the opportunity to present our unique experience in developing general aviation.

After two years of frequent visits, along with recent successful exhibitions and the second Czech Aviation Forum at the Western China Expo in Chengdu (see: http://www.mzv.cz/beijing/zh/x2001_12_12_2/mezipristani_ceskeho_a_z_reseni_v.html), representatives from the Czech Trade Promotion Agency and the Czech Light Aircraft Association accompanied seven Czech companies to gather at Zhuhai Airport. These seven Czech companies are: four manufacturers of light sport or commuter aircraft (Aircraft Industries, Evektor, TL-Ultralight, Skyleader), a pilot training company (F-AIR), a producer of avionics, electrical, and critical control system equipment (UNIS), and a machine tool manufacturer (KOVOSVIT MAS).

Based on the fact that China is expected to open its low-altitude airspace in 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic and the Czech Trade Promotion Agency, supported Czech aviation participation in the 2014 Zhuhai Airshow. Since then, the Czech Republic has been active in China, which was also reflected at this year’s Zhuhai Airshow. Mr. Aleš Zálešák, Director of the Shanghai Office of the Czech Trade Promotion Agency, who also participated in this year’s airshow, noted, “The strong enthusiasm shown by Czech companies is mainly because, unlike the first year, after two years of market exploration, they have conducted very specific talks, and partners are even specifically asking for them.”

Many Czech airlines have already found their initial partners, making 2014 a truly fruitful year. “Everyone agrees that without relevant permissions from China’s civil aviation authorities, market development remains quite challenging,” Mr. Zálešák added.

H.E. Libor Sečka, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to China, summarized the outcomes of the economic diplomacy project as follows: The main goal of the project is to raise awareness of the Czech comprehensive general aviation solution and help Czech companies find suitable partners, whether for export, joint production, service provision, or other forms of collaboration. The greatest motivation still comes from showcasing the unique expertise of Czech companies and institutions that have created favorable conditions for the development of the Czech general aviation industry. We hope that China will achieve similar success in the field of general aviation, and we are happy to share our experience and build win-win partnerships. Handling licensing issues has now become one of our main tasks. We look forward to collaborating with our colleagues on this in 2015.
