For most people, outdoor activities come to a halt when temperatures drop below zero. But will you, with your adventurous spirit, be the exception? On February 7, 2015, the 2015 KAILAS "Vanke Songhua Lake Ice and Snow Marathon," hosted by the professional outdoor brand KAILAS, will kick off at Songhua Lake in Jilin. With temperatures dropping to more than ten degrees below zero, amid icy cold and biting north winds, only unyielding determination will carry runners through the full 42.195KM marathon. Without a doubt, this will be the coldest marathon event in China, and all these elements make the race extraordinarily challenging. Two hundred marathon runners from different countries and regions will gather at Vanke Songhua Lake—the most resilient among them will be crowned the king of this extreme cold marathon!
As the official equipment sponsor of the race, KAILAS has also prepared a range of professional extreme cold gear for all participants—lightweight, quick-drying, elastic, and warm. These ensure comfort during the run while offering top-notch protection, giving runners strong professional support even in the harshest conditions.
Ice, snow, and extreme cold—the first of its kind in China
Running through ice and snow, the runners’ greatest enemy is extreme cold. Completing the full 42.195KM marathon under such frigid conditions will be a tremendous test of both physical endurance and willpower. As China’s first ice and snow marathon, it will be an event worth cherishing and remembering for a lifetime. This race will also be the country’s first high-difficulty, large-scale, extreme cold ice and snow marathon.
Ice, snow, and rime—an exceptional racecourse landscape
The KAILAS "Vanke Songhua Lake Ice and Snow Marathon" offers a completely different experience from other city marathons, featuring its own unique atmosphere. Amidst breathtaking ice and snow landscapes, runners will engage in a dialogue with nature. They will face tougher challenges than those in typical city marathons. This brand-new experience will be unforgettable. For the first time, this event combines a marathon with the Jilin International Rime and Ice Festival, merging the fairytale-like beauty of rime with a one-of-a-kind marathon experience.
Ice and snow vacation—a themed gala dinner
On the evening of the race, marathon participants will gather at the highest point of the Vanke Songhua Lake Resort—the summit of Daqing Mountain at 935 meters above sea level, known as Jilin ONE—to attend an ice and snow outdoor gala dinner themed “Declare War on Extreme Cold—Extreme Cold Off-Road” by KAILAS. Designed by the American OZ firm, the landmark Jilin ONE features a North American mountain-style architecture with a total floor area of about 3,000 square meters. It not only offers a panoramic view of downtown Jilin but also overlooks the scenic beauty of Songhua Lake. During the dinner, participants will enjoy wonderful performances while sharing their post-race experiences and takeaways. More marathon enthusiasts will meet, bond, and become friends, pushing the joyful atmosphere of the snowy marathon to its peak.
After the intense extreme sport, participants can also experience international-level skiing resort life at the Vanke Songhua Lake Resort. Here, they can ski on premium international slopes and enjoy the refined services offered by the Songhua Lake The Westin Resort and the ski-themed Qing Shan Inn. Additionally, participants can savor local delicacies in the North American-style commercial street and appreciate the convenience and fun brought by supporting facilities such as the visitor center, courier service, and convenience stores.
The KAILAS "Vanke Songhua Lake Ice and Snow Marathon" will also invite numerous well-known runners to attend the event, where they will share their outdoor sports experiences in extreme cold environments up close with the participants.
