HONG KONG, March 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will hold the "Four Seasons Washoku Culture Festival. Hokkaido Food Festival" from Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 8, 2015,introducing seasonal ingredients and foods representing the four seasons of Japan.

Japanese culinary culture originates from a spirit of reverence for nature, and with its distinct four seasons and geographical diversity, it boasts global appeal. Washoku (Japanese cuisine) has even been inscribed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. According to statistics from the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the export value of agricultural, forestry, fishery products, and food reached over 600 billion yen for the first time in 2014, with Hong Kong ranking No. 1 for eight consecutive years — a testament to the enthusiasm Hong Kong people have for Japanese food. The organizers hope to further promote the profound culture of washoku through this event.
The venue will be divided into four zones – “Spring,” “Summer,” “Autumn,” and “Winter” – to create the distinct atmospheres of Japan’s four seasons and introduce seasonal ingredients and foods for each. Visitors can also experience the charm of Japanese food culture firsthand through live cooking demonstrations and product tastings. These include demonstrations by popular chef Kei-san and cooking classes from Japan’s ABC Cooking Studio, as well as opportunities to sample authentic Hokkaido foods and enjoy traditional Japanese performances. Additionally, a “Japanese Washoku Master Quiz Competition” will be held, with the champion winning a round-trip ANA flight for two to Tokyo.
