Along the way, you’ll witness stunning landscapes and meet interesting people. Starting today, the “On the Road · Youth” Photography Contest, jointly organized by Touro Travel and the Yale University Chinese Students and Scholars Association, officially kicks off. Both single photos and photo series are eligible
Lisa, the activity manager from Touro Travel, the organizer, explained that this contest is a gathering for photography enthusiasts, so all participants are amateur photographers. “As long as you’re 18 years or older and submit your work to the organizing committee as required, you can join for free.”
Each participant can submit either a single photo or a photo series. For single photos, each person can submit up to three, while photo series should consist of three to four images. “The images in a series should have some connection, such as telling a story or showcasing a theme,” said Lisa. “Of course, this event jointly hosted by Touro and the Yale University Chinese Students and Scholars Association will naturally focus on the study-abroad life at Yale. Categories like ‘nature,’ ‘travel,’ ‘personal journey,’ and ‘cultural moments’ are all welcome. This is also the main theme of the contest.”
Photo submission period lasts half a month
According to the organizers, the contest only accepts digital format photos. Entries must be recent photos, and participants must be the sole copyright holders.
From March 16 to March 31, the organizing committee will accept submissions. Then, on April 1 and 2, a panel of professional photographers will conduct the preliminary selection. From April 3 to 16, the shortlisted works will be open for public voting on the special event page on the Touro Travel website.
The judging panel is star-studded
The prestigious judging panel includes American-based photographer Wang Zhi, internet celebrity Pu Meiers from NetEase Blogs, Bangbang, chief photographer of Guangzhou’s 29mm Photography Studio, Zeng Yan, an illustrator, landscape photographer, and chief photographer at Ximu Culture, as well as photographer Lin Haiyin. Lin Haiyin graduated from Fudan University’s Department of Sociology. After a brief stint at New Oriental, she went on to pursue a master’s degree in Economics and Education at Columbia University. Currently based in New York, she works as a professional fashion photographer and runs her own photography studio. She has also participated in multiple “New York Fashion Week” shoots, collaborating with celebrities such as Leehom Wang, Maggie Cheung, Tong Liya, Yao Chen, Kunling, and Zhang Zetian. Her work has been featured in magazines including Vogue China, ELLE, National Geographic Traveler, MiLK, Element Magazine, People, and Visual China.
The grand prize is an iPad mini
The contest will award one first-place winner, one second-place winner, and one third-place winner, as well as one Most Creative Award and one Most Touching Award. Additionally, three participants who vote will win a “Lucky Audience Award.” The first-place prize is an iPad mini, while the second and third-place winners will receive a Fujifilm instax camera and a Kindle, respectively.
Lisa revealed that in December last year, Touro held a photography contest that attracted a total of 1,238 participants and received 2,058 photos. “By co-hosting this contest with Yale University, we can see the world through the eyes of Yale students and experience the charm of foreign lands. We believe the participation of students from a world-class university will enhance the appeal of the competition.”
